Before & after

Below are just a selection of some of the countless dogs that have been rescued from Greece over the years. As you will see, pictures truly speak louder than words!

Every rescue is unique and worth every effort. Sometimes the circumstances of a particular rescue or the fact that the animal would have surely died had it not been found in time makes one feel that a small miracle has been achieved.

LOGAN

This extremely malnourished dog was found in a rubbish bin in the village of Pamphilla, Lesvos, by a volunteer from Kivotos animal shelter. His face was swollen because the collar was on so tightly his lungs struggled to work meaning the the blood circulation to his head & brain was affected.

MABROUK
FEB 2011
The picture below was taken on the 10th Feb 2011. He has made a fantastic recovery thanks to the care and attention he has received. Mabrouk is still in Greece, awaiting his passport so he can start a new life in the UK. You can read all about Mabrouk's road to recovery HERE.

MALA
JAN 2008
Mala was found in this shocking condition by a Greek couple in Malia on the island of Crete. A part of her lip, nose and face were missing. It was first though that she had fallen from the back of an open pick up truck, but when she arrived in the UK in July 2008, X rays taken at the Royal Veterinary Hospital revealed a number of shot gun pellets. Whoever shot had most likely intended to kill her, but she must have turned her head at the 'right moment'.

MALA
JUNE 2010
Mala has been in the UK since July 2008 and has been part of the Jones household ever since. She's a total wild child and a real character. She's a very loving and affectionate dog and loves to play! The photos below were taken in June 2010 on a day out at the beach.
You can read all about Mala HERE

MISTY
BEFORE
Misty was left chained up and neglected in appalling conditions.

MISTY
AFTER
Misty was rescued and has since been rehomed. As you can see from the pictures she's a beautiful dog and loved very much by her new family.

ZOE
SEPT 2008
This small pointer cross was found collapsed by the roadside and unable to walk in the island of Rhodes. She was VERY thin, but with a very bloated stomach and a bad chest infection which had got to her lungs.
You can read all about Zoe's struggle for survival HERE

ZOE
JULY 2009
Zoe now lives with a family in Germany. Her new 'mum and dad' adopted a dog from Greece the previous year so Zoe already had a playmate and Greek cousin to keep her company. The pictures below are a selection taken between November 2008 and July 2009.

ZIA
FEB 2008
Zia was found in this terrible state on the island of Kos in February 2008. Her 'owners' (two brothers) were actually charged with 'animal cruelty' and taken to court, but when the case was eventually heard in 2009, typically the judge just 'cautioned' them. She was used as a breeding machine for 8 years by her so-called 'owners' and when no longer useful, starved and neglected, but thankfully she was rescued in time.

ZIA
JULY 2009
Zia was adopted by a Greek Animal rescue supporter and now lives in Surrey. She shares her home with two fellow 'Greekies', one from Crete and the other from Corfu. She is now a very happy old girl, enjoying life to the full.

KALOS
AUG 2008 APRIL 2009
Chained to a tree, a rusty oil drum for a 'home'... ...with his loving new family in the UK.

YAS
NOV 2006
The day Yas was found on Crete he was very thin & had many open wounds.

YAS
OCT 2008
Yas has since been adopted by a GAR supporter and now lives in Surrey with some fellow 'Greekies'.

Ella (left) and Yas could be brother & sister, they are really very close & always together. Ella herself was rescued as a puppy after being dumped outside a shelter on Corfu in 2007.
