GAR Dogs available for adoption
There are hundreds of thousands of stray animals in Greece and they all deserve a loving home. Unfortunately we can bring over only a small number due to the expenses involved. Below are photos and details of dogs who are currently ready for rehoming.
If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please complete our pre adoption questionnaire form which is available to download in
All GAR dogs are microchipped, vaccinated and sterilised and 'prepared' for entering the UK according to DEFRA requirements. In addition, they are blood-tested for tick-borne and other diseases. These tests are not required under the PETS travel scheme, but we feel they are important to ensure that adopted dogs are healthy.
As we are only able to home check in the South-East, potential adopters must live in the following areas: East and West Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, Essex, parts of Kent and Hertfordshire. We will of course consider adopting to homes outside of the South-East provided we a have a volunteer in your area who is able to carry out a home check.
Felipe is 2 years old and weighs 24kg. He is an athletic boy who has lots of energy and loves going for walks.
He is very friendly and gets on well with other dogs.
When Little Pek was found he was infested with fleas. Due to constant scratching
he injured his eye and sadly it had to be removed.
Little Pek is around 2.5 years old. He is full of character, very people oriented and loves to have human company.
He enjoys car rides, walks perfectly on the lead and has excellent recall.
He's very sociable with dogs and cats.
Luna is around 1.5 years old and weighs 14-15kg. She is a highly intelligent, playful girl who loves attention.
She is good with other dogs and cats but would be better suited in a home with older children.
Margaret-Rose is around 1.5 years old and weighs 18-20kg. She is the perfect family dog who is very good with other dogs and cats.
She has such a sweet nature, is very well behaved and simply loves a cuddle and attention.
Weighing 38-40kg, 2 year old Menelaos is a big dog with an even bigger heart. He is very friendly and loves people and other dogs.
He adores getting attention and loves to play. He would benefit from some training walking on a lead.
Smart by name and smart by nature. This highly intelligent girl is around 2 years old and weighs 14kg. She is very inquisitive and loves to investigate
every sound and smell. She is good with other dogs, OK with cats but would be better suited in a home with older children.
Smart is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
Ticos is around 1.5 years old and weighs 15-16kg. He is often shy when he meets new people for first time but will soon ask for affection and attention.
He is very good with other dogs and OK with cats but would be better suited in a home with older children.
Melitsa is 2 years old and weighs 10kg. A good natured, affectionate little dog, Melitsa has loads of energy, loves her walks and is always ready for a cuddle.
She walks well on the lead and recall off lead is good. She is sometimes a little timid with people she doesn't know but in general an outgoing, happy little dog.
Millie is a 6 year old part Siamese cat. She loves human company and is very affectionate.
She is not particularly interested in the outdoors and much prefers to be inside with her family. Besides being very pretty, Millie does have the typical Siamese meow
and is fond of telling you she is around and waiting for a cuddle. Millie is used to living with dogs and other cats.
Three legged Momo is approximately one year old. He loves cuddles, playing with other dogs and he adores his food!
He gets on well with cats (although he is a little scared of them) and walks well on a lead. He can be shy when he meets new
people but soon loses his inhibitions when he gets used to them.
CHINOOK & LEO
Urgent assistance required - Chinook (Setter) and Leo (Pointer) were rescued from Greece about 7 years ago. Their owner has died suddenly and they are now homeless,
they desperately need foster care and eventually a forever home. They are currently on the Isle of Wight.
Daisy is approx 1 year old and weighs 8kg. She is a very affectionate girl and is sociable with adults and children. She walks well on the lead and gets on with other dogs
and completely ignores cats. She's also familiar with cars and car rides. Her good manners suggest she must have 'belonged' to someone previously but was no doubt abandoned.
2 year old Betty was heavily pregnant when she was found wandering the streets of Megara. She walks well on the lead and is a very happy and playful girl.
She is good with children and other dogs and would make a wonderful addition to your family.
Gilda is a setter mix, who was found abandoned in the middle of nowhere and heavily pregnant. On the evening she was rescued she gave birth to 11 puppies, none of which survived.
When 2 year old Carla was rescued she would wag her tail between her legs and bow her head when someone attempted to stroke her.
She was no doubt abused and frightened that she was going to be hit. Despite having such a hard start in life she is trusting of humans again and loves to have her belly rubbed.
She is a very sweet girl who gets on well with other dogs.
Kylie is approximately 18 months old and while she may only weight 5kg she has bags of personality and is adorable. She is very playful but is prone to jealousy if other dogs receive attention in her
presence so we would only rehome her in an environment where she is the only dog.
Hector is around 2-3 years old and weighs approximately 27kg.
He was rescued over Christmas 2013 in the town of Megara and was found to have venereal disease. As a result it was necessary to remove his penis, but he is a perfectly healthy, happy dog.
He walks well on the lead and is a very calm, laid back boy. He gets on well with other dogs and totally ignores cats.
Faidra is one and half years old and was abandoned outside a shelter near Athens when she was just 6 weeks old.
She was scared and cried when picked up, as if even at such tender age she had already known pain and fear of people. As she became older she became more confident,
but is still shy with people she doesn't know. She's very friendly with other dogs, never causing any trouble. She would benefit being adopted by an experienced 'dog person' (or a couple) who already has a
friendly and confident dog but no children. It is not known if she would be OK with cats. Faidra weighs just 12kg.
