GAR Dogs available for adoption
There are hundreds of thousands of stray animals in Greece and they all deserve a loving home. Unfortunately we can bring over only a small number due to the expenses involved. Below are photos and details of dogs who are currently ready for rehoming.
If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please complete our pre adoption questionnaire form which is available to download in
All GAR dogs are microchipped, vaccinated and sterilised and 'prepared' for entering the UK according to DEFRA requirements. In addition, they are blood-tested for tick-borne and other diseases. These tests are not required under the PETS travel scheme, but we feel they are important to ensure that adopted dogs are healthy.
As we are only able to home check in the South-East, potential adopters must live in the following areas: East and West Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, Essex, parts of Kent and Hertfordshire. We will of course consider adopting to homes outside of the South-East provided we a have a volunteer in your area who is able to carry out a home check.
Aris is a 5 year old male dog who weighs about 26 kg. He grew up in a home but sadly, through no fault of his own, found himself on the streets.
He is very friendly and gets on well with other dogs. He would make a wonderful family dog.
Felix is a very handsome 3 year old English setter whose character is as lovely as his looks.
At 16kg he is not large for his breed but he's a typical setter, friendly, affectionate and goofy. He gets on well with other dogs and cats
and like all setters will be very attached to his owner. Felix loves to run but has good recall. He walks on a lead and is well behaved in the house.
Jollie is 2-3 years old and weighs around 15kg. She was found heavily pregnant and in very poor condition - a truly sorry sight!
She is very good-natured and affectionate, walks well on lead, loves cuddles, gets on well with other dogs but is wary of cats. This lovely dog is currently 'living' on a balcony
of a woman who found her, though she doesn't want to keep her. Jollie is people-orientated dog who would choose human affection over food, she is so love-starved.
Savas is less than 2 years old and weighs around 15kg. He was abandoned outside a shelter near Athens, tied to the fence and from his behaviour it was clear that he once had
a family (how could they have abandoned him?!). He knew how to walk on lead, to sit when asked etc. Savas is very affectionate and just wants to please anybody who shows him love.
He gets on well with other dogs, but he's not happy at the shelter.... he cries after the carers leave. He was tested with cats (you can view a video HERE) and seems to ignore them. This lovely boy needs a loving forever home as soon as possible.
You can also see footage of Savas walking on a leash HERE.
Savas is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
Fate is 14-15 months old and weighs 18kg. She is a very affectionate people-orientated dog, who also gets on well with other dogs. She walks well on a lead and is a quick learner.
Her name truly reflects the circumstances of her rescue. Fate would love to have a canine companion in her new home, as she is very social and playful. Although she looks a bit
serious in the photos, she is a very happy dog and her 'smile' is infectious. Please give this lovely girl a chance of a secure & loving future.
Luke is 14-15 months old and weighs just 7kg. He is not only very cute but also very good-natured. He loves cuddles, going out for walks, meeting people and other dogs, playing with toys and fetching a ball when thrown for him...... all in all, a fab little fella with a huge personality. He would love to have a canine playmate in his dream home, a nice girlfriend he could share his walks with.
Evi is 3-4 years old and is a very gentle dog, but somewhat nervous of strangers and dogs she doesn't know.
She is a submissive type of dog, would never initiate a fight, but instead she would try to avoid any confrontations
by hiding. She is still quite insecure, but patient loving care would work miracles for her. We don't know what her life
prior to being found abandoned was like, but she was no doubt abused, kept chained 24/7 (dogs like her are generally used as 'guard dogs') and it's
likely she was abandoned because she has no aggression in her. A shelter is not a suitable environment for this gentle dog.
This beautiful and most adorable girl is between 3-4 years old and weighs around 30kg (looks bigger in the photos than she actually is).
Due to a terrible accident a few months ago, her hind left leg had to be amputated, but she is coping brilliantly and is very fit and agile. Peggy Sue has a truly golden
character. She loves people and gets on great with all dogs. The ideal home for her would be with a family who already have a dog (or two), who live in the countryside
and have a large garden. This girl has had a really tough life in the past and she thoroughly deserves a carefree and happy life,
a secure future. Everybody who meets her falls in love with her and she always has a happy smile on her face; it's infectious! She is a very special dog.
Can somebody please make her (and our) dream come true and offer her a loving home?
Bozo is a true gentleman! Affectionate, funny and loves people and being hugged. He is blind in one eye,
but this does not affect him in any way. He loves country walks and doesn't pull on lead. Doesn't like noise and too much traffic.
Loves to play chase so a large garden would be ideal. He gets on with most dogs, though has been picked on by a few unneutered males. Bozo is 4-5 years old, weighs just over 25kg and a home in the countryside,
with a lovely female to share it with would be ideal.
Faidra is one and half years old and was abandoned outside a shelter near Athens when she was just 6 weeks old.
She was scared and cried when picked up, as if even at such tender age she had already known pain and fear of people. As she became older she became more confident,
but is still shy with people she doesn't know. She's very friendly with other dogs, never causing any trouble. She would benefit being adopted by an experienced 'dog person' (or a couple) who already has a
friendly and confident dog but no children. It is not known if she would be OK with cats. Faidra weighs just 12kg.
Eddie is a very handsome 2-3 year old boy and weighs around 28kg. He is a calm, affectionate boy, who loves people,
is very sociable with all adult dogs but is not keen on puppies or cats. He would make somebody the most loyal companion and
although he needs a little bit work with walking on the lead (he has lived at a shelter since he was a few months old),
but he's getting there.
Nio was rescued as a puppy and is now about 1.5 years old. He loves people, gets on well with all dogs, but unfortunately doesn't like cats due to
being scratched badly by one when he was a few months old. He is a handsome easy-going dog and he 'walks tall' and he's certainly a head-turner.
