Boney Fingers - saved from certain death

Lazarakoula

This abandoned hunting dog was found on the 25th March 2009 in Kavala, Northern Greece. Emaciated and so weak, she could barely stand. She was found in the street where several other strays 'hung around', but although she must have been seen by many people, nobody helped her ... until her rescuer saw her (an animal welfare volunteer in Kavala) who tells the story of her rescue below...

'When we found her, she could hardly walk or stand and couldn't compete for food. When we brought her home and she just seemed to get worse. She still was unable to stand or walk, her eyes clouded up, and she couldn't see or smell or anything. I was preparing for a funeral.

She was able to eat while laying down, but wouldn't come out of her dog house. We put a little carpet in the house to help keep her warm, but she must have been totally exhausted. The house is protected from the wind and the rain and is small and snug and warm, and safe so she could sleep, and that's what she did - nothing but sleep and eat for a week and yesterday, Lena found her walking outside her house. She's still a mess but her skinny little tail wags, and I think she just might be on the road to recovery.

She eats three times a day in small portions, and always wants more. We got her super vitamins and cod liver oil, she has been de-wormed about three times.'
