Mala - the 'wild child' from Crete
The couple contacted Cretan Animal Welfare Group who took her to a vet. The vet first thought that Mala may have been tied in the back of an open truck and after getting loose had either jumped or fallen and caught the side of her face and nose on the truck or under the wheels. The vet did what he could to patch up her face, but as the edges of the torn skin were infected, parts of it had to be cut off. While her nostril had been repaired as much as possible it was clear she would need further surgery to the right side of her face and nostril. Mala arrived in the UK in August 2008. X-rays taken at the Royal Veterinary Hospital revealed a number of shotgun pellets. Whoever shot her had most likely intended to kill her, but she must have turned her head at moment the gun when off, which saved her life! |

Since her arrival in the UK, Mala has lived with Vesna Jones and the rest of the Jones gang. She is a complete character and her antics could fill several books. Despite the fact that she has many teeth missing she can demolish toys in seconds and can make a hole in a tennis ball in minutes. She's a very playful dog and has found an excellent playmate in Kali (another of Vesna's dogs) and the two of them can chase each other around the house endlessly. It's mayhem but also a lot of fun! She's our 'wild child' from Crete. BEFORE
