Hit by a car and left to suffer

This dog had been hit by a car in mid January 2010 on the outskirts of Kaluri (Halkidiki), but it was 26 days before his plight was reported to Julie, an English animal rescuer who lives approximately 50 km from where the dog was found.

It was Julie's friend who notified her about the dog, after hearing about him from a Greek man. The dog was found lying outside the house of an elderly man who fed some strays, including the injured dog. He left food and water out for him but never considered taking him to a vet.

The dog had been left paralysed from the waist down after being hit by a car. The only way he could move around was by pulling himself forward with his forelegs and as he did so, the hind legs became increasingly more 'damaged'. Had he sustained such injuries in the summer, he would not have survived for long, because the flies and maggots would have literally eaten him alive.

Julie had no idea that the dog's injuries would be so severe, but as soon as he was brought to her she immediately knew there was no hope for him. The smell from urine and infected wounds was overpowering. All Julie could do to 'help' the poor dog was take him to a vet where his suffering was put to an end.
