STAR ~ a brave dog's story of survival

An injured female pointer was found by some tourists and brought to a shelter on the island of Kos. The injuries were at least a few weeks old, sustained either by a hard blow to the nose with a sharp ‘object’ (an axe?) or by a wire trap, though it doesn’t seem likely that a wire could have cut through the bone.

Star, as the dog was named had somehow learned to eat and drink by scooping up food / water, tilting her head back and swallowing. It doesn’t bear thinking about how much she must have suffered immediately and for a long time after she sustained her injuries! I never cease to be amazed by the resilience of disabled animals. They just get on with life, regardless of their disabilities. I see this daily, as 5 of the 8 dogs we have, are disabled in some way (‘leg problems’ mainly).

Wherever Star will eventually be re-homed (possibly in the UK), it will have to be a very special home, where she will not meet many people, though thankfully she will not have to answer any questions about her disability. Imagine if she were a human!
