Mass poisoning of strays in the town of Veria

Poisoned dog The volunteers and members of the Animal Welfare Association of Imathia (ZO.I.) have contacted GAR to higlight the mass poisoning of dogs and cats which is taking place in a small town in the North of Greece called Veria.

Below is the all the information we received from the members of ZO.I. and the action that needs to be taken. PLEASE HELP!

Almost every day throughout the past few years, strays dogs and cats are poisoned by unknown people who hate animals.

These dogs and cats are being poisoned with pesticides which results in a very slow and painful death to the poor animals.

Poisoned cats

In the last 6 months alone, over 100 dogs and cats were poisoned on the streets! Last weekend at least 6 more dogs were killed in this way. Most of them were sterilised, harmless and were seeking only a little bit love.

We are desperate, we don't know what else to do. We are following all the necessary procedures in order to prevent this kind of cruelty and to increase the awareness of local residents but nothing changes. We also co-operate on a national and international level with other N.G.O.s for the animal rights.

The municipality are indifferent despite the fact that according to Greek law, the strays are their responsibility yet they do not react at all against the poisonings. We have lost all of our hope for a better life for the strays. We are desperate and we are now asking for your help.

Please send an e-mail or a fax to the mayor of Veria complaining about this kind of cruelty against the stray animals and ask for the Mayor Mrs Haroula Ousoultzoglou to take action against those citizens who use these awful and barbaric methods for killing the poor stray animals.

Thank you in advance!
